Chocolate Protein Milkshake — Low FODMAP & Vegan

When the weather warms up, a thick, cold chocolate milkshake is hard to beat — but most shop-bought versions are loaded with dairy, sugar and gut-unfriendly extras. This one is different: rich and creamy, completely vegan, and gentle enough for sensitive tummies.

It's built on Blissful Brown Rice & Raw Cacao — our two-ingredient blend of organic brown rice protein and organic raw cacao, and one of only two That Protein blends that are FODMAP Friendly certified. That makes this a genuinely IBS-friendly treat, not just a chocolate hit.

Why this milkshake works for sensitive guts

Classic milkshakes rely on cow's milk and ice cream — both high in lactose, a common IBS trigger. Swapping to a low FODMAP plant milk and a certified low FODMAP protein removes the usual culprits while keeping all the indulgence. Raw cacao brings deep chocolate flavour with no need for sugary syrups, and a frozen banana adds natural creaminess.

Ingredients

  • 1 serving Blissful Brown Rice & Raw Cacao
  • 250ml low FODMAP plant milk (almond or oat, in a moderate serving)
  • 1 small frozen unripe banana (firmer bananas are lower in FODMAPs)
  • 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter (optional — 100% peanuts)
  • 4–5 ice cubes
  • Pinch of sea salt

Method

  1. Add the plant milk, frozen banana, protein, peanut butter (if using) and salt to a blender.
  2. Blend on high until thick and smooth.
  3. Add the ice and blend again until frosty.
  4. Pour into a tall glass and finish with a sprinkle of cacao nibs.

Easy variations

For a mocha twist, blend in a shot of cooled coffee or use Chirpy Chirpy Choca Mocha (low FODMAP). For an extra-nutty shake, double the peanut butter and reach for Nutty Nutty Peanut Butter (low FODMAP). Keep portions sensible — almond and oat milks are low FODMAP in moderate servings, so check the Monash app if you're in the strict elimination phase.
